PREPARING YOUR HORSE FOR CAMP

FITNESS – Your horse will be asked to work hard during camp. We will be riding 2X day so you must get your horse fit before bringing him to camp. Every horse is different, so you should talk to your coach about how to go about increasing your horses’ fitness. You need to gradually increase his workload and expect 3-4 weeks of riding to get your horse fit enough for camp.
FEEDING – Getting your horse fit will require more fuel. If your horse is not regularly on grain you may begin adding a small amount of grain to his diet as you add exercise. Some horses have health issues that do not allow them to eat grain, make sure that you talk to your vet or coach before changing your horses’ diet. When increasing your horse feed you MUST increase his workload.
PACKING YOUR HORSES FEED - Don’t prepare your horses’ feed before camp because his diet is likely to change over the week. Bring enough grain for 2 weeks. We may gradually increase the horses’ grain as the week progresses if he is showing that he might needs more energy.

REMEMBER: Every horse is an individual. Always increase feed and workload gradually.

Contact Daisy for a plan to introduce feed and work into your horses’ diet at least a month before the camp you plan to attend.
